About Me
Hello! I'm Alexa Hart, and you have reached my personal website. Here is a little info about me.
I am a strong believer in experiential learning, and I am constantly learning new skills to deepen and broaden my knowledge. A few of my interests include entrepreneurship, helping others, "mediapreneurship," traveling, adventuring, teaching, racquetball, cooking, good design, new media, collaborative consumption, amazing finds (restaurants, deals, travel destinations), and technology.
A Southern California native, I hold a Communication Studies degree and a minor in Professional Writing for Business Communication from UC Santa Barbara. After university, I traveled a bit around Europe and then got a job at a public relations firm in San Francisco. I decided that the job wasn't the right fit for me just yet and that I needed to pursue some of my biggest passions: travel and helping others. I started volunteering in Peru, which led to completing a TEFL/TESOL (Teaching English) certification. For the next 2+ years, I adventured, volunteered, and and taught English around the world. I had a blast globetrotting and developing cultural awareness.
Seoul, South Korea was my home from March 2010 - March 2012. There, I taught English to adorable Korean munchkins. After my contract ended, I traveled around Asia and came home to the United States. When coming home in June 2012, I wanted a way to share with the world how international experiences can greatly impact people's lives and show them how they can go overseas and what they can do. Thus, I founded Atlas Sliced, an interview-based web show and podcast serving up advice on how to live and work abroad.
While I love traveling and living abroad, I'm back in the U.S. for now. It has been great re-establishing home base and connecting with like-minded individuals. I'm moving to Washington, DC in summer of 2013 and am looking forward to starting a new life there with my boyfriend of over three years (We met while teaching in Korea.). He'll attend grad school in international studies, and I'll most-likely find a job while working on Atlas Sliced on the side (Wish me luck!). I interned in DC back in 2007 and loved it, so I'm excited to go back, especially to a city with a big international presence.
