About Me
Hello! I'm Alexa Hart Kumbier, and you have reached my website. I created this website years ago when my maiden name was Hart. Now, Hart is my middle name. Below, you will find more information about me.
Currently, I am a second grade teacher at the American School of Doha. I previously taught at ACS Beirut. Before Beirut, my husband Eric and I taught at an international school in China. A Southern California native, I hold a multiple subject teaching credential and a master's degree in education from Pepperdine University. My undergraduate studies at UC Santa Barbara were in Communication Studies (major) and Professional Writing for Business Communication (minor).
Seoul, South Korea was my home from February 2010 - March 2012. There, I taught English as a second language to native Korean kindergartners and elementary school students. After my contract ended, I traveled around Asia and came home to the United States. When coming home in June 2012, I wanted a way to share with world how international experiences can greatly impact people's lives. Thus, I founded an interview-based web show and podcast offering advice on how to live and work abroad.
A strong believer in experiential learning, I am constantly acquiring new skills to deepen and broaden my knowledge. A few of my interests besides education include wellness, traveling, playing squash, and cooking.
